Pimpri, 20th December 2023: Residents of Pimpri Chinchwad faced an unexpected water supply disruption on today evening due to a leakage in the riser pipe of stage three and four at the Ravet Pumping Station managed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

The affected areas include Chinchwad, Nehrunagar, Thergaon, Kalewadi, Rahatni, Pimple Saudagar, Pimplegurav, Sangvi, Wakad, Nigdi Pradhikaran, Tathwade, Kiwale, Mamurdi, Chikhli, parts of Moshi, Jadhavwadi, Rupinagar, Talwade, Krishnanagar, Yamunanagar, Akurdi, and more.

The water supply, sourced from the Pavana Dam, is distributed through the Ravet Dam in the Pavana River. The leakage in the upstream pipeline prompted immediate repair work, resulting in a temporary halt to the water supply. The PCMC has stated that the repair work is expected to continue, and water supply may remain irregular and at low pressure on Thursday.

Chief Engineer of the water supply department, Shrikant Savane, assured residents that repair efforts are being carried out diligently, and the situation is anticipated to normalize by midnight. As a temporary measure, the municipality has urged residents to store water only on the ground floor of their buildings, emphasizing the importance of sufficient pressure in the storage tank.

The PCMC clarified that, under current circumstances, water supply cannot be extended to higher floors without adequate pressure. Residents without storage tanks have been advised to install them on the ground floor to facilitate water storage. The water supply department has explicitly stated that, until further notice, there will be no water supply on any floor of affected buildings.
