Kalyani Nagar, 7th June 2025: Waterlogging near the newly constructed Kalyani Nagar Metro Station has become a serious concern for pedestrians and motorists alike. Following rainfall in the city, the station area was inundated, forcing people to walk on the main road amidst vehicular traffic—putting lives at risk and causing significant inconvenience.

According to residents of Kalyani Nagar, the situation on Saturday morning was especially dangerous. “People had no choice but to walk in the middle of the road due to waterlogged footpaths and the station entry point. This is an accident waiting to happen,” said one resident.

Apart from safety risks, the water accumulation is also creating traffic snarls and obstructing emergency vehicle access. The stagnant water is feared to become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, potentially leading to a rise in vector-borne diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.

Local citizens have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and MahaMetro authorities to immediately address the drainage issue and implement a long-term solution to prevent recurring waterlogging in the area.

“Public infrastructure must be accessible and safe for all. This kind of negligence around a high-traffic metro station is unacceptable,” said another commuter.

As the monsoon intensifies, residents are demanding urgent remedial action to ensure pedestrian safety and traffic efficiency near the Kalyani Nagar Metro Station.
