Pune Weather Alert: IMD Warns of Lightning, Rain and Thunderstorms Across District
Pune, 9th May 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai has issued an Orange Alert for Pune district on Saturday, warning of possible thunderstorms and lightning activity over the next three to four hours.
According to the weather advisory, light spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely in some parts of the Pune district.
Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions and remain indoors or move to safe shelters during adverse weather conditions.
The IMD has advised people to avoid travelling unless necessary, stay away from open grounds and elevated areas, and not stand under trees during lightning activity. Residents have also been asked to remain alert as lightning strikes may occur in isolated areas.
Apart from Pune, similar weather conditions have been forecast in several districts across Maharashtra, including Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Beed, Jalna, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Satara, Sangli, Latur, and Ratnagiri.
The IMD has appealed to citizens to follow safety guidelines and monitor official weather updates to avoid any untoward incidents during the thunderstorm activity.
