Pune: What Really Happened at Lohagad Fort? Fiancée and Friend Detained in Ketan Agrawal Death

Lonavala, 23rd June 2026: What was initially reported as an accidental fall during a photography session at Lohagad Fort has taken a dramatic turn, with Pune Rural Police detaining the deceased man’s fiancée and her male friend in connection with the case.

Ketan Vishal Agarwal (26), a resident of Lodha Belmondo Society in Gahunje, Maval, died on June 18 after falling nearly 450 feet into a gorge at Lohagad Fort. At the time, police were informed that Agrawal had accidentally slipped while posing for photographs near the edge of a cliff during a trekking trip.

Ketan was the son of Pune-based builder Vishal Agarwal, a partner in Shubh Developers.

According to the initial information provided to police, Agarwal had lost his balance while taking photographs and plunged into the deep valley below. A major rescue and recovery operation was subsequently launched by Lonavala Rural Police and local rescue teams to retrieve his body from the gorge.

However, the investigation has since taken a new direction. Pune Rural Police have now detained Agarwal’s fiancée, Siya Pravin Basesar Goyal of Pune, along with her male friend for questioning in connection with the incident.

Sources familiar with the investigation said police are examining whether the death was wrongly portrayed as an accidental fall. Investigators are scrutinising the sequence of events leading up to Agarwal’s death and verifying statements made by those who accompanied him to the fort.

Meanwhile, Agarwal’s family has alleged that the accident narrative presented to police was misleading and that the death was the result of a pre-planned conspiracy. The family has further claimed that the fiancée and her friend were involved in the incident. These allegations are currently being investigated by the police.

In a message circulated on social media, family members demanded strict action against those responsible and sought justice for the deceased. They have also questioned the circumstances under which the marriage alliance was arranged and alleged that important facts had been concealed from them.
