Pune: With Threat To Cut Electricity Supply, Cyber Thieves Cheat Individual Of Over Rs Six Lakh

Pune, 24th December 2022: In a cheating incident, cyber thieves have withdrawn Rs 6.35 lakh from an individual’s bank account by threatening him with a cut in electricity supply.

Shirin Mankar (44), a resident of Kondhwa, has filed a complaint at the Kondhwa police station, Pune city police.

Thieves contacted Mankar’s mobile number pretending to be speaking from MSEDCL. They said his electricity supply would be cut off as the electricity bill is not paid. Mankar was asked by the thieves to download the Any Desk app.

After downloading the app, the thieves got the details of Mankar’s bank account. By misusing this information, they withdrew the money from his account.

Police are further investigating the case.
