Pune: Cyber Thieves Transfer Rs 19 Lakh From SBI Using Famous Jeweller’s Name
Pune, 24th December 2022: Cyber thieves withdrew Rs 19 lakh through the RTGS facility by calling a nationalized bank in the name of the director of a famous jeweller family in Pune.
State Bank branch manager Ashish Jawkhedkar (46) has filed a complaint at Bund Garden police station, Pune city police. Police have registered a case against four people.
State Bank of India has a current account in the name of Chandukaka Saraf and Sons at the Bund Garden main branch. Complainant Jawkhedkar was in the bank on 20th December. The thief contacted his mobile number. The thief pretended that Kishore Kumar Shah, director of Chandukaka Sarafi Pedhi, was speaking.
The thief pretended to keep Rs two crore as a fixed deposit in the bank. The thief inquired about the interest rate. After that, the thief said he wants to invest in mutual funds. The thief contacted him again after some time. He said money is needed for urgent medical treatment. The thief pretended to do two transactions through the RTGS facility.
As per the complaint, thief said he had sent the bank account information through the mail. The bank checked the email. It mentioned two HDFC Bank accounts. The thief said he wanted to do the transaction through RTGS immediately as the chequebook was running out.
Meanwhile, the thief calling in the name of Kishore Kumar Shah contacted the bank again. Rs 19 lakh was transferred from the bank to two accounts of HDFC Bank. The bank contacted the number of the thief who called in the name of Shah and said that the amount was transferred. Meanwhile, Sarafi Pedhi was contacted by the bank. The employee there said the relevant email was not from their office.
After realizing the fraud, the bank lodged a complaint with the Bund Garden police station.
