Pune, 27th February 2023: According to recent data released by the Pune police, Pune, a western Indian city, has been experiencing an average of three thefts per day for the past three years. The data indicated that from January to November 2021, the city reported a total of 3,332 thefts, which averages out to approximately nine thefts per day. Mobile phones, laptops, and two-wheelers were the most common items stolen, with a significant portion of the thefts taking place in crowded areas such as shopping malls and markets. House break-ins and thefts from parked vehicles have also increased.

The police have suggested that citizens take necessary precautions to avoid becoming victims of theft, such as keeping doors and windows locked, hiding valuables from view, and not leaving personal belongings unattended in public areas. They have also asked citizens to report any suspicious activity to the authorities in a timely manner.

To combat the problem, the Pune police have taken various measures, including increasing surveillance in crowded areas, installing CCTV cameras, and conducting regular patrols. They have also urged citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with the police in their efforts to prevent thefts.

The issue of theft is not exclusive to Pune, as other cities in India and worldwide are facing similar challenges. Nonetheless, it is critical for citizens to remain aware of the risks and take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings and ensure their safety.
