Pune Woman Accidentally Transfers Rs 50,000 to Rickshaw Driver via GPay; Police Help Recover Full Amount

Katraj, 10th May 2025: In a cautionary tale about the risks of digital payments, a woman from Balajinagar, Dhanakwadi, accidentally transferred ₹50,000 instead of ₹50 to an auto-rickshaw driver via Google Pay. Thanks to the swift intervention of the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police, the entire amount was successfully recovered.
The incident occurred during a routine rickshaw ride when the woman, intending to pay the driver a nominal fare, mistakenly added two extra zeroes while entering the amount on the payment app. The driver, identified as Kiran, reportedly switched off his phone shortly after the transaction, leaving the woman unable to reach him.
Growing anxious and unable to recover the funds on her own, she approached the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station for help. Constable Layappa Pujari promptly initiated efforts to trace the driver, using a combination of digital tracking and local inquiries.
The driver was located within a short time and brought to the police station. After mediation by the police, Kiran acknowledged the accidental transfer and returned the full ₹50,000 to the woman without dispute.
Grateful for the prompt resolution, the woman praised the Pune Police, especially Constable Pujari, for their swift action and empathetic support.
