Pune: Woman CA Dies By Suicide Due To Harassment By Husband, In-Laws; Police Arrest Accused

Yerwada, 7th August 2021: A 35-year-old chartered accountant (CA) allegedly died by suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as CA Renu Swapnil Bafna, a resident of Yerwada. She died by suicide on August 6.

Based on a complaint from her father Sanjay Sancheti (58) of Nigdi, an FIR has been registered against her husband CA Swapnil Ramchandra Bafna (35), father-in-law Ramchandra Bafna (75) and mother-in-law Varsha Ramchandra Bafna (58).

According to police, the accused used to pass comments against Renu over her cooking skills and other matters and used to taunt her. In the complaint, her father alleged that the mother-in-law used to abuse and beat Renu. The incident took place between June 2013 and August 6, 2021.

Senior Police Inspector Yunus Shaikh, in-charge of Yerwada police station, said that Renu’s husband Swapnil Bafna has been arrested in the case. All the accused have been charged for offences under sections 498A (harrasment of married woman by husband and in-laws), 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (assault), 504 (insult) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police Sub Inspector MA Dongare is further investigating the case.
