Pune: Woman Cheated Of Rs 10 Lakh By Paying Electricity Bill Online

Sangvi, 8th July 2022: A woman was duped of Rs 10 lakh by a fake MSEDCL employee who asked her to pay pending electricity bill through the internet after downloading some apps.

Based on a complaint from the 53-year-old woman, Sangvi police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police has registered an FIR.

According to police, an anonymous person contacted the woman on her mobile. The person told the complainant that her electricity bills are pending and for that, she needs to update her phone. After that, the person asked her to download the Quick Support app and Any Desk app.

After the woman did so, the accused shared her mobile screen and with the help of the internet, he withdrew Rs 10.3 lakh from the woman’s bank account.

Police have registered a case and are searching for the accused. Police Inspector Sunil Tambe is investigating the case further.
