Pune: Woman Dies After Jumping During Police Raid at Viman Nagar Spa
Viman Nagar, 24th February 2026: A young woman died after allegedly jumping from a window during a police raid at a spa centre in Viman Nagar on Monday afternoon (February 23). The spa manager was seriously injured in the incident, which occurred around 3 pm at the City Space building in the area.
According to police, a team from Vimantal police station conducted the raid based on specific inputs. When officers reached the Roots Spa, the door was reportedly locked from inside. As police knocked, a woman and the spa manager allegedly jumped out of a window in an apparent attempt to escape.
The woman sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead. She has been identified as Sankita Mukherjee. The manager, Hussein Rehman Sheikh, 39, suffered a serious leg injury and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police said four other women were rescued from the spa centre during the operation.
The incident has sparked controversy over the police response following the fall. An eyewitness alleged that officers remained at the spot for nearly 20 minutes and did not immediately shift the injured to a hospital in an ambulance or police vehicle.
Senior police officials, however, denied the allegation, stating that both injured persons were taken to the hospital without delay.
Further investigation is underway.
