Pune, 10th December 2024: A tragic accident on the Pune-Nashik highway claimed the life of a woman returning from the Khandoba temple in Shrikshetra Kharpudi. Adding to the tragedy, the deceased’s gold necklace, reportedly worth five tolas, was allegedly stolen during the transit of her body. The police are currently investigating the incident.

The victim, accompanied by her husband, a retired senior government official, was traveling on a two-wheeler after visiting the temple on Saturday (7th December), to offer prayers on the occasion of Champashashti. At around 1:45 PM, a speeding car collided with their vehicle near Waki village in Khed taluka, causing both to fall onto the road.

While the husband sustained minor injuries, the wife suffered fatal injuries when the car’s rear wheel ran over her head. She was rushed to a private hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

At 2:00 PM, the woman’s body was transported to Chakan Rural Hospital for an autopsy. At that time, witnesses confirmed that the gold necklace was still around her neck. However, when her relatives arrived at the hospital around 2:15 PM, they noticed the necklace was missing.

Chakan Police have launched an investigation into the alleged theft. Police Sub-Inspector RB More stated, “We are investigating both possibilities — whether the necklace was stolen or misplaced. Efforts are underway to uncover the truth.”
