Pune: Woman Duped Of Rs 4.28 Lakh Through Matrimony Website

Hadapsar, 30th September 2021: A woman teacher from Hadapsar has lodged an FIR with Pune city police alleging that she was cheated of Rs 4.28 lakh by a man whom she had met on a matrimony website.

 

The accused pretended to send her gifts and then made her pay the amount under various pretexts. Based on her complaint, the case has been registered with Hadapsar police station against two mobile number owners.

 

According to police, the woman works as a teacher in a school. She had created her profile on the matrimony website. A person approached her saying he liked her profile. After their acquaintance, the accused told her that he is sending jewelry and other valuable gifts from Dubai.

 

Later he called the woman and told her that the gold had been seized by a customs officer at the Delhi airport. He told the woman saying that she would have to pay customs tax. After that, she received a call from another number and the caller identified as a customs officer and asked her to pay the tax. By the time she realised the fraud, she had already paid Rs 4.28 lakh.

 

The crime is being investigated by Police Sub-Inspector SKS Gadekar.
