Pune: Woman Held Captive and Sexually Assaulted for Over a Week, Accused Arrested

Baramati, 14th January 2025: Pune Rural Police arrested a 25-year-old eatery owner on Monday for allegedly confining and repeatedly sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman over eight days in a tin shed behind his under-construction eatery.
According to police, the woman managed to contact a relative on January 11, describing her ordeal. Acting swiftly on the information, a team led by Inspector Avinash Shilimkar from the local crime branch raided the location, rescued the woman, and took the accused into custody.
“The accused has been charged under multiple sections, including rape, wrongful confinement, and voluntarily causing hurt,” an officer from Pune Rural Police stated, adding, “He has a history of criminal offenses, including a case of sexual assault registered with Malegaon Police and another for outraging modesty with Baramati City Police.”
The woman, originally from Madhya Pradesh, was living alone in Talegaon Dabhade after her husband returned to their hometown due to job loss. The accused allegedly approached her through a mutual acquaintance and offered her a job with a promised monthly salary of ₹15,000.
On January 2, the accused brought the woman to Baramati under the pretense of starting her new job. However, he confined her in a tin shed behind his under-construction eatery. “She alleged that the accused raped her in the early hours of January 3 and threatened to kill her if she tried to escape. Over the next eight days, she was sexually assaulted repeatedly,” the officer explained.
The situation escalated on January 11 when the accused reportedly demanded that the woman bring another woman, the wife of one of his employees, to his room. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her again. The victim then managed to borrow a phone and contact a relative, who immediately alerted the police.
The accused has been transferred to Malegaon Police for further investigation.
