Pune: Woman Killed, Husband Injured After Water Tanker Hits Two-Wheeler in Hadapsar
Pune, 22nd June 2026: A 27-year-old woman was killed and her husband sustained injuries after a water tanker allegedly hit their two-wheeler in Hadapsar on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The deceased was identified as Neha Sumit Upadhye, a resident of Sunrise Housing Society in Hadapsar. Her husband, Sunil Upadhye (30), who was injured in the accident, later filed a complaint at the Kalepadal police station.
Based on the complaint, the police arrested the tanker driver, Rameshwar Yamgir (32), and booked him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 106, 281, 125(a) and 125(b), along with sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the investigation, the couple was travelling on a two-wheeler from Sayyadnagar towards Satavnagar at around 4.15 pm when a speeding water tanker allegedly rammed into their vehicle from behind. The impact threw both riders onto the road.
Police said the tanker subsequently ran over Neha, causing fatal injuries. She died on the spot. Sunil suffered serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Further investigation is underway.
