Wakad, 23rd September 2021: An elderly woman was attacked by a robber while she was on a morning walk near Omega society in Wakad. The incident took place around 5.30 am on September 22 (Wednesday).
Based on a complaint from Rekha Dnyaneshwar Girme (66), a resident of Postal Colony, Wakad police station under Pimpri Chinchwad Police has registered an FIR against the unknown robber.
According to police, an unidentified man tried to snatch Girme’s chain from behind. When she resisted, he attacked her with a sharp weapon. She is undergoing treatment at YCM Hospital in Pimpri.
Wakad police are investigating the matter.
Many residents have taken up the matter of security with police and demanded regular patrolling in the area.
Senior Police Inspector Vivek Muglikar, in-charge of Wakad police station, in his message to residents of the area to go for a walk in a group (at least two persons). .
“The housing societies’ watchmen at the gate should stand outside on the road so that they can keep watch on the road. The watchman must call the police immediately about any untoward incident by dialling 100/112. In yesterday’s incident, the watchman did not inform the police about the incident. Please do not wear ornaments during the morning walk. After the lockdown, there is an increase in street crime incidents”, Inspector Muglikar said.
