Pune: Woman PSI, Two Cops Face Action for Turning Investigation into Tourist Trip
Pune, 30th July 2026: A woman Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), a police head constable and a police constable attached to Vishrambaug Police Station have been penalised after a departmental inquiry found that they spent time sightseeing instead of properly investigating a case in Satara.
Additional Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode has ordered the withholding of their annual increments for two years as disciplinary action.
The incident dates back to April 4, when the three officers travelled to Satara along with the complainant to investigate a domestic violence case registered at Vishrambaug Police Station.
According to the inquiry, the officers conducted only a superficial investigation. Instead of coordinating with the local police upon reaching Satara, they first stopped for a meal at a popular dhaba. They later visited Shahupuri Police Station and carried out a spot inspection but failed to question local residents or gather evidence from the area.
After completing the formalities, the team was expected to return to Pune. Instead, they visited Kaas Plateau and other tourist destinations. The complainant, who had requested an early return as her mother was unwell and alone at home, was ignored.
The inquiry also found that after returning to Pune late at night, the officers initially attempted to drop the woman complainant at Swargate bus stand instead of ensuring her safe return home. She was eventually dropped near the Narayan Peth police chowky after she insisted.
The departmental inquiry concluded that the officers displayed indiscipline, negligence and dereliction of duty, bringing disrepute to the police force. Based on the findings, the three personnel have been punished with the stoppage of annual increments for two years.
