Pune, 31st May 2023: Manisha Chakne, a woman ticket checker in the Pune Division, has emerged as the top earner among her colleagues by collecting a staggering fine of Rs 97 lakh 55 thousand in the last financial year. On average, she contributed Rs 33 thousand 641 per day to the Railways during this period.

Rupali Malve and Rupali Nashikkar also achieved significant earnings, collecting Rs 61 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh respectively. In an effort to enhance the performance of TCs, Divisional Commercial Manager Dr Ramdas Bhise initiated an innovative experiment. He sought the opinions of ticket checkers and subsequently assigned some female checkers to check tickets on various trains rather than on a single route. This change resulted in improved performance and increased revenue for the railways.

In the financial year 2022-23, the Pune Division witnessed a remarkable revenue growth, with ticket inspections contributing Rs. 24 crore 65 lakh 79 thousand. Comparatively, the income from ticket inspections in the financial year 2019-20 amounted to Rs. 19 crore 44 lakh 71 thousand. Due to the temporary closure of railway services during the COVID-19 pandemic in the financial year 2020-21, the revenue dropped to Rs. 79 lakh 21 thousand. However, it bounced back to Rs. 10 crore 97 lakh 73 thousand in the subsequent financial year.

The Pune Division also implemented an experiment with exclusively appointing female ticket checkers on the Mumbai-Kolhapur Koyna Express. After the train departs from Mumbai, two female ticket checkers board the train from Pune, while two others join when the train departs from Kolhapur to Pune. This initiative aimed to provide women ticket checkers with distinct responsibilities and roles within the railway system.

The innovative approaches taken by the Pune Division, such as allowing female ticket checkers to inspect any train and introducing separate responsibilities on specific routes, have proven successful in enhancing ticket inspection performance and subsequently boosting railway revenue.

These initiatives have not only empowered female ticket checkers but also contributed significantly to the overall efficiency of the railway operations in the Pune Division.
