Pune Woman’s Murder: Husband’s Lies, Fake Missing Report, and a Burned Body — Full Story
Warje, 8th November 2025: In a case straight out of a crime thriller, the Warje Malwadi Police in Pune have cracked the mystery behind the disappearance of a 38-year-old woman — revealing a gruesome murder planned and executed by her husband.
The accused, Sameer Punjabrao Jadhav (42), a garage owner from Shivane, has confessed to killing his wife, Anjali Jadhav, over suspicions of an extramarital affair. In an attempt to cover up the crime, he allegedly burned her body inside a rented warehouse to destroy all evidence.
“This was one of the most calculated and cold-blooded crimes we’ve encountered recently,” said DCP (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam. “The accused went to extreme lengths to erase evidence, but the team’s persistence and technical investigation ensured that the truth came to light.”
Police said the case began as a missing person complaint filed by Jadhav on October 28, two days after his wife had reportedly gone missing near the Warje Bridge bus stop. However, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in Jadhav’s statements and his unusually frequent visits to the police station, which raised suspicion.
Although the case was later transferred to Rajgad Police Station, Senior Police Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade directed the Warje Malwadi team to continue a parallel inquiry under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam.
During sustained questioning and analysis of technical evidence, including CCTV footage, police confronted Jadhav with multiple contradictions in his narrative. He eventually confessed, admitting that he had suspected his wife’s relationship with a man named Satej Patil for over a year.
According to his statement, Jadhav had rented a warehouse in Shindewadi, near the Mumbai–Bengaluru Highway, and prepared a metal box as part of his plan. On October 26, he took his wife out on the pretext of a drive and brought her to the warehouse. While they were eating snacks, he strangled her to death, placed her body in the metal box, poured petrol over it, and set it on fire. Later, he disposed of the ashes in a nearby riverbed.
Following his confession, an FIR was registered for offences under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Warje Malwadi Police Station and subsequently transferred to Rajgad Police Station for further investigation.
The probe was carried out under the supervision of DCP Sambhaji Kadam, ACP Bhausaheb Patare, and Senior PI Vishwajeet Kaingade, with a team comprising PSI Sanjay Narale, PSI Nitin Gaikwad, and constables Ganesh Karche, Sunil Muthe, Yogesh Wagh, Sharad Pol, and Shirish Gawde.
