Pune, 28th February 2025: In the wake of a recent sexual assault incident at the Swargate ST bus stand, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to deploy women security guards in Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses that transport students from municipal schools. This move is aimed at strengthening student safety during transit.

Currently, school buses and vans transporting students from private schools have female assistants, but PMPML buses catering to municipal school students lack similar security measures. The Swargate incident has raised concerns over the safe transportation of students, prompting the administration to take corrective action.

To address these concerns, the municipal administration, in coordination with the Education Department, has initiated the process of appointing women security guards in around 200 to 300 PMPML buses used for student transportation. Officials believe this decision will help ensure a safer travel environment for school children.

“There are about 300 buses that transport students from municipal schools. To ensure their safety, female security guards will be appointed in these buses,” said Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B. P.
