The old flyover at University Chowk was demolished in July 2020. Since then, there has been a traffic jam every day for the last 2.5 years. In the monsoon session of the Legislature, Shirole drew attention to the issue with a suggestion. At that time, Cabinet Minister Deepak Kesarkar had given an assurance in the Legislative Assembly that an urgent meeting of PUMTA would be held in this regard.

Accordingly, the PUMTA meeting was held on September 22. The Tata Company, which operates the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro, and the PMRDA had planned to construct the new bridge by November 2024. However, Shirole’s urgent demand to complete the construction of the bridge in one year to reduce the suffering of drivers was accepted in the PUMTA meeting. A PUMTA meeting was called to review the work.

Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao directed to remove all the hurdles in this work immediately to complete the flyover by January 2024. Also, the road at Modern College should be done as soon as possible. A new alternative route from the university to Bhosalenagar should be planned and the footpath should be reduced to provide more space for vehicles.

He suggested that the traffic police should plan properly to avoid traffic jams. Rao implied that all the concerned departments should coordinate continuously and complete this work at speed.
