Pune, 30th May 2023: Huge amount of water flows from Hanuman Hill behind Fergusson College to Jangli Maharaj Road during monsoon. To prevent it, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the work of taking ditches and pits at the foot of the hill and in the areas where water is flowing. Commissioner Vikram Kumar inspected this area last week in the backdrop of the monsoon.

He also discussed the same with Fergusson College administration. In the past few years, heavy rainfall has occurred in the area of the hills and the rainwater flowing from the hill is coming down in the direction where it will find its way. The said situation occurred due to encroachments on drains, streams, and canals.

Last year, the water came down the hill to Fergusson College and further down the Ghole Road to Balgandharva Chowk. The amount of water was such that it moved further towards the Deccan resulting in the formation of the pond. The administration has decided to drain the hill water at the base of the hill itself.

Additional Commissioner Dr. Khemnar explained that the depth of the two ponds on the premises of Fergusson College will also be increased by the municipality. This pond is currently covered with soil and has some water in it during monsoons. However, this year the municipality will make it deeper and rainwater will also be diverted into it.
