Pune: Worker Dies After Fire Breaks Out at Paint Storage Facility in Kondhwa

Pune, 18th July 2026: A worker died after a fire broke out in a paint storage unit on the ground floor of a six-storey residential building in Kondhwa on Friday night, officials from the Fire Brigade department of the Pune Municipal Corporation said.

The blaze was reported around 9.15 pm at Firdos Apartment in Vetal Nagar, where the ground floor was being used to store painting materials and supplies for a painting business. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the fire control room received an alert.

Fire officials said the premises were engulfed in flames and thick smoke when firefighters arrived. The team launched a firefighting operation and rescued a worker, identified as Mohammad Irfan Yusuf, who was trapped inside the unit. He had suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to the building owner, welding work was underway inside the premises when the fire broke out. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control before it spread to the upper floors of the six-storey building, averting a major disaster.

However, Mohammad Irfan Yusuf later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Police and fire officials are investigating the incident.
