Pune, 18th July 2026: The Pune district administration has granted final approval to 84 adoption cases, the highest in Maharashtra, enabling children to be legally placed with adoptive families after the adoption process was shifted from courts to the district administration under the Adoption Regulations, 2022.

The approvals were granted at a meeting chaired by Resident Deputy Collector and Additional District Magistrate Jyoti Kadam on July 16, following directions of the Bombay High Court. Under the revised procedure, adoption cases that were earlier decided by district courts are now processed under the chairmanship of the District Collector in accordance with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) guidelines.

Officials said the 84 cases included both domestic and inter-country adoptions that were pending before courts as well as those awaiting approval at the administrative level.

With the final clearance, prospective adoptive parents who had been waiting to complete the legal process can now formally adopt the children, while 84 children have found permanent families, officials said.

The adoption process was coordinated by the District Women and Child Development Office, Pune, in association with the District Child Protection Unit and the State Adoption Resource Agency. District Child Protection Officer Mangesh Babanrao Jadhav, under the guidance of District Women and Child Development Officer Rohini Dhawale, supervised the process with the support of officials Rekha Yadav and Pratham Shende, along with social workers from recognised Specialised Adoption Agencies.

Officials also credited the district’s Specialised Adoption Agencies for their cooperation in facilitating the large number of adoption approvals.
