Pune: Young Man Attacked with Sickle Over Love Marriage; Salon Vandalised, Two Held

Shirur, 6th July 2025: In a shocking incident that has rocked Takli Haji in Shirur taluka of Pune district, a 22-year-old youth was seriously injured after being brutally attacked with a sickle inside his own men’s salon late Friday night. The motive behind the violent assault appears to be linked to a family dispute over a love marriage.
The victim, Dattatray Wagh, was attacked while cutting a customer’s hair inside his Kudai Men’s Parlour, located in Takli Haji. The attackers, armed with an iron sickle and other weapons, vandalised the salon and left Wagh with serious injuries to his left wrist and back.
According to Shirur police, Wagh had married Sneha, a resident of Kangaon, two months ago in Alandi. However, Sneha’s family reportedly opposed the union. Wagh had earlier filed a police complaint citing threats to his life from Sneha’s maternal uncle, Jeevan Ravindra Gaikwad.
Dramatic Attack Inside Salon
The incident unfolded around 9 PM on Friday when Wagh was attending to a customer, Ashutosh Bhakere, with the shutters partly down. Suddenly, three individuals—Jeevan Gaikwad, Sharukh Sheikh (26), and Prashant Sathe (19), all from Patas, Daund—stormed into the shop.
The attackers reportedly:
- Forcefully lifted the shutters

After the attack, the trio fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading toward Ranjangaon.
Villagers Intervene, Two Accused Caught
Alerted by the noise, local villagers chased down and apprehended two of the accused, Sharukh Sheikh and Prashant Sathe, and handed them over to Takli Haji police. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to the crime and stated they acted on the instructions of Jeevan Gaikwad, who remains absconding.
