Pune: Young Man Clings to Tree Roots, Rescued from Flooded Indrayani River in Alandi

Alandi, 19th June 2025: A youth named Amol Rathod was miraculously rescued after being swept away by the swollen Indrayani River in Alandi early this morning. Continuous heavy rains across the Pune district since last night have caused rivers, including the Indrayani, to overflow dangerously.
Amol was carried away by the strong current, but managed to grab hold of tree roots near the riverbank, which ultimately saved his life. Upon receiving an alert, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) swiftly reached the spot and successfully pulled him to safety.
Rathod was immediately taken to the government hospital in Alandi for treatment. Officials confirmed that his condition is now stable.
The incident occurred amid the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage, during which lakhs of Warkaris (devotees) from across Maharashtra have gathered in Alandi for Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s palkhi procession to Pandharpur, which is set to begin today. Due to the heavy rains, several areas in Alandi, including Sopan Bridge, Pundalik Temple, and the Bhagirathi Kund ghats, are now submerged.
In light of rising water levels, the local administration has urged all pilgrims to avoid entering the Indrayani River, warning of further flooding risks.
Officials credit Amol’s presence of mind and the NDRF’s quick response for avoiding a tragedy.
