Pune: Young Woman Dies Of Rare Guillain-Barré Syndrome in Baramati, Raising Health Concerns
Baramati, 19th February 2025: A young woman from Baramati, Kiran Rajendra Deshmukh, has succumbed to Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) after a prolonged battle with the rare neurological disorder. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pune before her passing.
Kiran, who was studying in Pune’s Sinhagad area and living with her relatives, began experiencing health complications three weeks ago after consuming panipuri, a popular street food. Upon returning to Baramati, she suffered from diarrhea and severe weakness. After seeking initial treatment at a local hospital, doctors suspected a serious condition and advised her transfer to Pune for specialized care. Despite extensive medical efforts, she lost her fight against GBS.
Former Deputy Mayor Abhijit Jadhav revealed that Kiran’s father, a rickshaw driver, faced financial difficulties in managing her treatment. When Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was informed of the situation during a recent visit to Baramati, he directed that Kiran be admitted to Navale Hospital in Pune for advanced care. She had been receiving treatment there since 27th January, but her condition continued to deteriorate.
Baramati Taluka Health Officer Dr. Manoj Khomane and Silver Jubilee Government Sub-District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Mahesh Jagtap confirmed that Kiran’s death resulted from GBS. However, they clarified that no other GBS cases have been reported in Baramati so far.
