Pune: Young Woman Killed, Another Injured After Dumper Hits Two-Wheeler in Baner

Baner, 20th June 2025: A 27-year-old woman was killed and another was injured after a speeding dumper rammed into their two-wheeler in Pune’s Baner area on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Tejal Prakash Tayade, a resident of Talasari in Thane district. Her pillion rider, Prachi Jagannath Pachange (28), a resident of Dange Chowk, Thergaon, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Based on a complaint lodged by Prachi, Baner Police have booked and arrested dumper driver Rahul Bhimrao Rathod (24), a resident of Bhondwe Vasti, Ravet.

According to police, the incident occurred around 5 PM near Ganesh Mandir Chowk in Baner. Tejal and Prachi were riding a two-wheeler near Jupiter Hospital when a speeding dumper collided with them. Tejal suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital along with Prachi, but she succumbed to her injuries before treatment could begin.

The dumper driver fled the scene following the accident but was later arrested late at night. The investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Kekan.

Authorities have reiterated that heavy vehicles such as dumpers, cement mixers, and trucks are prohibited on key city roads. However, several such vehicles continue to violate the restrictions, leading to a rise in fatal accidents across Pune. In the last month alone, 14 people have lost their lives in separate road accidents in the city.
