Kothrud, 24th February 2025: A 22-year-old man was brutally murdered in the Shastri Nagar area of Kothrud, Pune, late yesterday night in an incident stemming from past enmity. The assailants fired a gun at the victim before attacking him with swords and koytas, creating an atmosphere of fear in the area.

Gaurav Avinash Thorat, a resident of the Kothrud, was killed in the attack. The Kothrud police have registered a case against eight individuals, including Dinesh Bhalerao (27), Sohel Sayyed (24), Rakesh Sawant (24), Sahil Wakde (25), Bandya Nagtilak (18), Lakhan Shirole (27), and Aniket Umap (22). A case has also been registered against a minor.

According to the police, there had been previous disputes between Gaurav and the accused Sohel. Yesterday around midnight, Gaurav was sitting with his friends near the Datt Temple in Shastri Nagar when Sohel and his accomplices arrived at the spot. Sohel allegedly fired a shot from a country-made pistol at Gaurav, which missed. The group then attacked Gaurav with swords and koytas, inflicting severe wounds that led to his death.

The incident has heightened tensions in the area, coming just days after another violent attack in Kothrud where members of the Gajanan Marne gang assaulted a computer engineer.

Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane is leading the investigation.
