Pune, 24th February 2025: In a major breakthrough, Pune City Police have arrested notorious goon Gajanan aka Gajya Marne and ordered the invocation of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against his gang following a recent assault on a computer engineer in Kothrud. The arrest comes after Devendra Jog, a computer engineer, was attacked by members of the Marne gang in Kothrud on 19th February. A recent photograph showing a humble-looking Gajya Marne has gone viral on social media platforms.

Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced that the police are compiling information on the properties and vehicles used by Marne and his associates. He stated, “We are taking steps to break the terror of the Marne gang in Kothrud. A special cell will be set up in the Crime Branch for citizens to file complaints against the gang, with Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle, in charge of the Crime Branch overseeing it. The identities of complainants will be kept confidential.”

The police have also arrested three other gang members – Om Tirtharam Dharmajidnyasu (35), Kiran Kondiba Padwal (31), and Amol Vinayak Tapkir (35) – in connection with the assault on Jog. Another accomplice, Shrikant alias Babya Sambhaji Pawar, is currently at large. The arrested individuals have a history of serious crimes.

Following the attack, the police initially filed a case of minor assault. However, after facing criticism, Commissioner Kumar ordered a thorough investigation and stricter action. The Crime Branch has conducted searches at 74 locations, including Marne’s house on Paud Road in Kothrud.

Kumar emphasized that the police are analyzing mobile phone data and CCTV footage as part of the investigation. He also urged gang members to join the mainstream, warning of severe action against those disrupting law and order in the city.

The Commissioner’s statements came during an interaction with journalists organized by the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh today, where he addressed various concerns about the city’s law and order situation.
