Pune: Youth Drowns While Swimming In Panshet Dam; Body Recovered After Hours Of Search

Velhe, 7th April, 2025: A 37-year-old man tragically drowned while swimming in the backwaters of Panshet Dam near Ambegaon Khurd in Velhe taluka on Sunday (6th April) afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Mohanis Vijay Bolate, a resident of Yerawada, Pune.
According to Velhe police, Mohanis had visited the Panshet Dam area with his brother Shubham Bolate and a group of friends for a day outing. While some members of the group were sitting near the dam chatting and listening to music, Mohanis and another friend, Dnyaneshwar Sontakke, entered the water for a swim.
Shortly after, Dnyaneshwar noticed that Mohanis was no longer visible in the water and began calling for help, alerting the others to the emergency. The group immediately informed the Velhe police, who then contacted the disaster management team for assistance.
Rescue personnel Ganesh Sapkal, Tanaji Bhosale, Sanjay Chorghe, Sandeep Solaskar, Akash Jori, and Nilesh Taru launched a search operation in the deep waters of the dam. After nearly an hour and a half of searching, they recovered Mohanis’ body around 5 pm.
He was rushed to the rural hospital in Velhe, but doctors confirmed that he had died before any medical assistance could be provided. The confirmation was made by Dr. Dnyaneshwar Hiras of the Velhe Rural Hospital.
Velhe police have registered the incident based on a report filed by the victim’s brother and have launched a detailed investigation under the guidance of Assistant Police Inspector Nitin Khamgal.
