Pune: Youth Returning Home With Medicines Robbed In Vadgaonsheri, One Accused Arrested

Pune, 14th July 2021: A 19-year-old youth was robbed of a gold chain worth Rs 72,500 while returning home from a medical store in Vadgaonsheri. Pune Police have arrested one of the accused robbers.

Based on a complaint from Rahul Rakesh Chawariya of Vadgaonsheri, an FIR has been registered in this regard at Chandan Nagar police station. The arrested accused has been identified as Rohny Francis Arokyaswamy (26), a resident of Hadapsar.

According to police, the incident took place between 9.30 pm to 10.15 pm on July 1 at Omkar Chowk in Vadgaonsheri. Chawariya had to go to a medical store to buy medicine for his mother. His cousin and niece also joined him while walking back home from Al Quresh dairy. While taking a turn in a lane two robbers stopped them and brutally assaulted Chawariya with slaps and kicks. They also removed his shirt and snatched away 25 grams of gold chain. The act was captured on CCTV footage.

They had approached the police who had initially registered a non-cognisable offence (NC). After continuous follow up, an FIR was registered on July 7. The accused Arokyaswamy was arrested on July 9th. However, the other accused are still at large.
