Pune Zilha Parishad Builds Maharashtra’s First Warehouse Under MGNREGA in Ade Village
Pune, 21 February 2023: Pune Zilha Parishad (ZP) has recently completed the construction of the first-ever warehouse in Maharashtra under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. The 100 Metric Tons capacity godown, located in Ade Village in Maval Taluka (Pune district), has a carpet area of 33 x 33 feet. The estimated cost of the project was 11.47 lakh, with the unskilled and skilled components costing 1.83 lakh and 4.23 lakh, respectively. The remaining cost was contributed by the gram panchayat share of Stamp Duty, which was 4 lakh.
The inauguration ceremony of the godown was jointly carried out by Shrirang Appa Barne, Member of Parliament and Sunil Anna Shelke, Member of Legislative Assembly from Maval. Baburao Appa Waikar, Former Chairperson of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Committee of Pune Zilha Parishad, was also present at the event.
ZP CEO Ayush Prasad said that the construction of the godown created employment opportunities for 723 people, resulting in a cumulative income of Rs 1.86 lakh for poor households in the village under MGNREGA.
“The godown has multiple uses, including the storage of agricultural implements, seeds, and fertilisers, preventing post-harvest losses and emergency sales. Farmers can also obtain loans from banks against warehouse receipts. Additionally, small business enterprises, including individuals and SHGs, can operate from the godown, thereby creating jobs and sustained income. The gram panchayat will also receive rental income from the godown, which can be used for development works”, he added.
Sneha Deo, BDO MGNREGA, and Sudhir Bhagwat, BDO Maval deserve credit for the conceptualisation, design, approval, and execution of the project, he further informed.
The Pune Zilha Parishad hopes that Ade Gram Panchayat’s example will inspire other villages to follow suit. The warehouse will undoubtedly prove to be a significant asset for the village, and the local community will benefit greatly from it.
