Pune, 3rd June 2021: The Zilla Parishad has started preparations to ensure that there is no shortage of paediatricians for the treatment of corona patients in the third wave of the corona.

As a part of this, a total of 108 paediatricians, 99 part-time and nine full-time, have been appointed in the district on an honorarium basis. These paediatricians are from private hospitals. Many sub-district hospitals, rural hospitals and primary health centres in rural areas of the Pune district do not have full-time or part-time paediatricians. Preliminary estimates by medical experts suggest that children below 18 years of age might be at risk of infection in a possible third wave of the corona. If this estimate is proven right then there will be an ample need for paediatricians across the district.

Apart from this, a separate Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) will be set up in each taluka for children. Each of these hospitals will have a full-time paediatrician. The paediatrician will be assisted by a part-time paediatrician. The appointed experts will get an honorarium from the National Rural Health Mission Fund. As a precautionary measure, all the best pediatric hospitals and nursing homes (centres) in the district will be recognized as dedicated Covid Health Centers (DCHCs).

In addition, private children’s hospitals and nursing homes will also be recognized as dedicated Covid health centres”, said Ayush Prasad, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Pune.
