Many sub-district hospitals, rural hospitals and primary health centres in rural areas of the Pune district do not have full-time or part-time paediatricians. Preliminary estimates by medical experts suggest that children below 18 years of age might be at risk of infection in a possible third wave of the corona. If this estimate is proven right then there will be an ample need for paediatricians across the district.

Apart from this, a separate Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) will be set up in each taluka for children. Each of these hospitals will have a full-time paediatrician. The paediatrician will be assisted by a part-time paediatrician. The appointed experts will get an honorarium from the National Rural Health Mission Fund. As a precautionary measure, all the best pediatric hospitals and nursing homes (centres) in the district will be recognized as dedicated Covid Health Centers (DCHCs).
