Puneites Paid Rs 1.39 Crores Fine To Pune Police For Not Wearing Masks

Pune, September 11, 2020: In the last nine days, people in Pune paid a whopping Rs 1.39 crores to Pune City Police as fine for not wearing masks while going out of their homes. In the backdrop of Coronavirus pandemic, the state government has asked cops to impose Rs 500 fine on those found without the mask in public places.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bachchan Singh said, “Between September 2 and 10, our teams have imposed fine on 27,989 people and collected Rs 500 from each of them. Every police station has been assigned the task to check people roaming around without the mask.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has provided receipt books to cops. People are being asked to pay fine in cash and issued a receipt which contains the name of the person, place and time when he/she was caught without the mask.

Pune Police and PMC has appealed people to wear a mask as a preventive measure against the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID19).

According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the total number of Coronavirus positive patients till yesterday was 113,832 out of which 94,452 have been cured while 2668 have died. There are still 16,712 active patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals. They include 940 critical patients out of which 485 are on ventilator support.
