Punekar News Launches “Punekar Votes” Campaign to Boost Civic Awareness Ahead of PMC Elections

Pune, 16th June 2025: In the run-up to the crucial Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, Punekar News, the city’s leading digital news platform, has launched a comprehensive civic awareness campaign titled “Punekar Votes: जागरूक नागरीक, सक्षम पुणे!” (Aware Citizens, Stronger Pune!). The campaign aims to raise political awareness among urban voters and increase voter turnout across the city.
Speaking about the initiative, Mubarak Ansari, Co-founder and Managing Editor of Punekar News, said: “While Lok Sabha and Assembly elections grab headlines, it’s the municipal body that affects your daily life the most — from garbage collection to road maintenance, water supply to local health services. Yet, urban voter turnout in PMC elections remains disappointingly low. With ‘Punekar Votes’, our mission is to shift that trend through sustained, fact-based, issue-focused journalism.”
The multi-platform campaign includes:
Explainer articles and videos on the role of corporators and the functioning of PMC
Ward-wise issue coverage, citizen interviews, and candidate profiles
Daily social media engagement using #PunekarVotes
Offline outreach in collaboration with colleges, resident associations, and civic groups
The campaign will also feature video series, including “1 Minute, 1 Ward” to highlight ward-specific civic issues, and “Know Your Candidate” to provide neutral, fact-based profiles of contestants.
“We are committed to empowering voters with verified information, civic education, and constructive dialogue. Because an informed voter is our only bias.”
Punekar News, which has over 3 crore monthly digital reach, plans to work with responsible brands, colleges, and civic-minded citizens to amplify the message of participatory democracy. The team invites Punekars to contribute through photos, videos, and articles highlighting local concerns under the community journalism section: “My Ward, My Voice.”
