Punekars pledge to keep the city clean; APCCI teams up with the citizens for special World Environment Day clean-up drive

Pune, 06.06.2019: Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI), an environmental sustainability initiative celebrated World Environment Day on June 5thby garnering the support of local Punekars to help keep their city clean. APCCI has been in the forefront in helping to spread awareness regarding the benefits and importance of a clean city; with this clean-up drive and the help of fellow Punekars, the initiative has taken a step towards having the citizen implement the change they have seen in the city themselves.

Organized with the aim to spread awareness against littering, the cleanliness drive was successful in covering vast areas of the city and gathering an overwhelming response from volunteers across eminent government institutions such as the Indian Air force (Aero Space Safety Section), Central Industrial Security Forces, Pune Municipal Corporation among others.

Since its inceptionAPCCI has been the flag-bearers in advocating the importance and benefits of anti-littering. The initiative took it a step further when it invited the citizens of Pune to participate in the movement wherein people were sensitized about the importance of cleanliness as well as the segregation and safe disposal of garbage.

This World Environment Day, APCCI held two major cleanliness drives across key areas in the city. APCCI partnered with Air force, Central Industrial Security Forces, 7 Vision Events and many more to hosta 4-hour long cleanliness drive in Khulewadi along with citizen participation on-ground and online. Volunteers were motivated and educated to imbibe clean habits in waste segregation and disposal. Also, a video shown on bird menace made by Neha Pathak. People from and around Kalyani nagar witnessed a unique initiative PLOGATHON supported by APCCI, PMC, and KNRA that had the volunteers indulge in a unique format of a marathon requiring participants to pick litter from the roads as they jog along the route. The initiative received an overwhelming response from Punekars in the form of active participation and stringent willingness to follow a proper lifestyle of waste management and disposal.

Speaking about the clean-up drives, Mr Krishnan Komandur, CEO Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative said, “We have hosted several drives to help raise awareness regarding the importance and benefits of cleanliness, with this clean-up drive on World Environment Day, we are glad to see the people of the city come out in such larger volumes to take that learning to the next step. Seeing the determination and enthusiasm with which the participants have conducted the drive, has been fulfilling, showing us that our efforts towards raising awareness have borne fruit.”

Pune has led the way in setting a benchmark of a city coming together to keep its locales and roads, clean and green. APCCI along with the citizens of the city have successfully conducted several cleanliness and waste management awareness drives across various schools, colleges, and corporations. Urging volunteers across the city to spread the message of waste management, APCCI has succeeded in covering more than 60 percent of the city through the aid and proactive participation of the people.

APCCI has helped Pune, set an example of all the citizens collectively coming together and striving to be a better and sustainable city.
