Pune’s GDP Would Have Increased By 2% If Dedicated Airport Was Built Earlier, Says Devendra Fadnavis

Pune 12th August 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that the GDP of Pune would have increased by at least 2% if a dedicated airport was built in the city. He said that the city will get more investment in the IT sector new airport is built soon. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Chandni Chowk flyover.

Fadnavis further said that the current airport has many restrictions since it is a defence airport and hence a new airport at Purandar is needed. He said that since Ajit Pawar is in the government now the land acquisition process for the Purandar airport will be expediated with his help.

Fadnavis praised Pune citizens for their intellect and said that it is not easy to work on projects in Pune since citizens here come up with reports from different organisations of different countries to compare any project meant for the city. He gave an example of Pune Metro while saying that despite starting the work before Nagpur Metro, Pune Metro became operational later.

It may be noted that the separate Airport at Purandar is planned by the authorities and it has been pending due to land acquisition issues. The current airport located at Lohegaon is owned by the Air Force due to which the civil operations have to operate under many restrictions.
