Pune’s Hadapsar Railway Station to Get Wider Approach Roads, PMC Starts Work
Mundhwa, 23rd September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started preparatory work to widen roads leading to the Hadapsar railway terminus, with the project aimed at improving access for passengers and addressing traffic congestion in the area.
As part of the initial work, the civic body will relocate underground utility lines, feeder boxes and electric poles that are currently obstructing the proposed road-widening work. The utility-shifting exercise is expected to cost around ₹1.45 crore.
Officials have also started marking the areas where the roads will be widened around the railway station.
The Hadapsar railway station is being developed as a terminus by the railway administration for long-distance train services. However, passengers have continued to face difficulties due to inadequate infrastructure surrounding the station.
Among the major concerns are narrow approach roads and the lack of dedicated or sufficient space for autorickshaws and PMPML buses, leading to traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience for commuters.
Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had visited the railway terminus site last month to review the proposed improvements to road connectivity. During the visit, he instructed officials from the road development, Special Projects and other concerned departments to expedite infrastructure-related work in the station area.
Meanwhile, the PMC has begun the tender process for appointing an agency to shift underground utilities near Shastrinagar Chowk. The utility relocation is linked to ongoing work on a grade separator at the junction.
The civic body has earmarked around ₹1.54 crore for the grade separator, which is being constructed to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion at the busy intersection.
