Pune’s Historic Shaniwarwada to Offer Digital Audio Experience for Tourists

Pune, 21st November 2023: Exploring the rich history of Shaniwarwada, a historical gem in Pune, is set to become a more immersive experience for tourists with the introduction of digital audio guides. The proposal, presented by the electricity department, has received approval from the standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Bhagyashri Deshpande, Executive Engineer at PMC Electrical Department, shared, “To enhance the convenience of tourists, digital audio guides will soon be available at Shaniwarwada. QR codes will be installed, allowing visitors to scan and pay nominal charges to access audio information in Marathi, Hindi, and English.”

The rates for audio information are Rs 50 for Marathi, Rs 75 for Hindi, and Rs 100 for English. Additional language options will be introduced soon to cater to the diverse needs of foreign tourists.

Situated in the heart of the city, Shaniwarwada holds historical significance not only for Pune but the entire nation. Construction began in 1730 and concluded in 1732, witnessing the rise and fall of the Maratha Empire. Enthusiastic tourists, both domestic and international, flock to Shaniwarwada to explore its rich heritage.

Currently, tourists rely on expert guides for insights. The PMC’s initiative to introduce digital audio guides aims to enhance the overall tourist experience in the Shaniwarwada area.
