Pune, 21st November 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern warning, indicating impending action against residents refusing to install PMC water meters in their homes.

Nandkishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer of the PMC Water Supply Department, conveyed, “The action is imminent, and opposition may lead to legal consequences under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Those resisting the water meters risk reduced or no water supply, leaving them unable to file complaints with the PMC.”

Recent reports suggest that local citizens are protesting against the installation of meters within the same water supply scheme. In response, the PMC has initiated the process to take legal action against such dissenting citizens. The water supply scheme, initiated by the PMC in 2017, has achieved 62% completion, with most zones nearing conclusion. Jagtap assured that only minor tasks remain.

This comprehensive scheme aims to install over 3 lakh water meters in various societies and bungalows. Stay tuned for further developments on this matter.
