Pune’s Iconic ‘Poona Guest House’ Honored with Postal Stamp for Nine Decades of Culinary Excellence

Pune, 8th December 2023: In a historic recognition, the renowned ‘Poona Guest House’ located on Laxmi Road in Pune, known for its authentic Marathi cuisine and unwavering support for budding artists, has achieved a significant milestone by being featured on a postage stamp. This marks the first time an institution in the hospitality sector has received such an honour, highlighting the establishment’s remarkable nine decades of dedicated service to the citizens of Pune.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the PunePex exhibition organized by the Government of India’s Department of Post at Balgandharva Art Gallery. A postage packet featuring the iconic Poona Guest House was revealed, symbolizing not only the culinary excellence but also the cultural significance the establishment holds in the hearts of Pune’s residents.

Established in 1935 by Nanasaheb Sarpotdar, a silent film producer, the Poona Guest House is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Sarpotdar family. Over the years, the guest house has not only been a culinary haven but also a nurturing space for emerging artists.

Poona Guest House Director Kishore Sarpotdar, along with Abhay Sarpotdar, Sadhana Sarpotdar, and Sharmila Sarpotdar, expressed their gratitude for this prestigious honour. Kishore Sarpotdar acknowledged the valuable cooperation of the International Collector of Rare Society in making this recognition possible. He emphasized that the release of the postal envelope featuring the guest house’s image will contribute to its recognition across the country and beyond.
