Pune’s IT Capital Hinjawadi Paralysed? Traffic Woes Keep Growing, Residents Keep Fuming, Solutions Still Missing

Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Hinjawadi, 2nd June 2025: Hinjawadi, Pune’s prominent IT hub, is facing worsening traffic congestion with each passing day. On Monday, heavy traffic was reported across Phases 1, 2, and 3, with Laxmi Chowk, situated at the heart of the chaos, completely paralysed as vehicles poured in from all directions. Commuters, desperate to reach their destinations, found themselves stuck in a gridlock where no one moved. The situation resembled a chaotic race to be first, where ultimately everyone ended up last.
Laxmi Chowk, which connects Bhumkar Chowk in Wakad to Hinjawadi and provides access to Marunji and Maan, was brought to a standstill. The traffic signal system at the square is reportedly damaged, contributing to the disorder in an area already notorious for congestion. The locality houses numerous Paying Guest (PG) accommodations catering to both students and professionals working in Hinjawadi.
Despite being part of Hinjawadi, the area falls under the jurisdiction of the Wakad Traffic Division. Senior Police Inspector Sunil Pinjan told Punekar News, “The road conditions are poor, which causes frequent traffic snarls. Now, the signal system has stopped working. I have deployed additional personnel to manage the situation, and we have managed to clear the traffic for now.”
