Pune’s Longest Flyover on Sinhagad Road Inaugurated; Travel Time Cut from 30 to Just 6 Minutes
Sinhagad Road, 1st September 2025: A major relief for commuters on Pune’s ever-busy Sinhagad Road has finally arrived. The city’s longest flyover, stretching from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and is now open for traffic.
Built at a cost of ₹118.37 crore in three phases, the flyover is expected to significantly ease congestion on Sinhagad Road, one of Pune’s most crowded traffic corridors.
A Long-Awaited Solution
Sinhagad Road handles over 1.5 lakh vehicles daily, connecting areas like Dhayari, Narhe, Khadakwasla, Vadgaon Budruk, and Nanded City, while also linking to the busy Mumbai–Bengaluru National Highway. With the Mutha River on one side and hills on the other, road widening was impossible, making a flyover the only feasible solution.
The project was first launched in September 2021 with the groundbreaking done by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Completed in Three Phases
Phase 1: A 520-metre stretch near Rajaram Bridge (₹15 crore).
Phase 2: A 2.1-km flyover from Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Theatre (₹61 crore).
Phase 3: A 1.5-km flyover from Veer Shivaji Kashid Chowk to Late Prakash Vitthal Inamdar Chowk (₹42 crore).
Together, these three sections now form a seamless corridor.
From Half an Hour to Six Minutes
Before the flyover, commuters needed 30 minutes to cover the 2.6 km stretch between Rajaram Bridge and Fun Time Theatre, often stuck at six traffic signals. Now, with the new elevated road, the journey takes just 5 to 6 minutes.
The project also includes improved three-lane roads beneath the flyover, wide footpaths, parking facilities, and landscaped dividers. Beautification and maintenance have been undertaken under CSR initiatives for the next five years.
The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe, State Minister Madhuri Misal, MLAs Yogesh Tilekar, Bhimrao Tapkir, Bapusaheb Pathare, and Sunil Kamble, along with senior PMC and Police officials.
The newly opened flyover is expected to drastically reduce traffic snarls, bringing much-needed relief to lakhs of Pune commuters and residents along Sinhagad Road.
