Pune’s Metro Expansion Gains Momentum: Swargate-Katraj Route Proposal Heads to Central Government

Pune/Nagpur, 20th December 2023: Minister Uday Samant announced that the proposal for the Katraj underground metro from Swargate in Pune is set to be forwarded to the Central Government. The Minister shared this information during a session in the Maharashtra Assembly, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing public transportation infrastructure.

The proposal awaits approval from the Cabinet before making its way to the Central Government for further consideration. Minister Samant addressed the assembly, responding to MLA Bhimrao Tapkir’s query concerning the expansion of Pune Metro Phase 1 and 2.

Once the Swargate-Katraj metro proposal reaches the central government, the state government will conduct a thorough review and provide its approval. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 25.65 km Kharad-Khadakwasla route, has already been submitted to the state government. Minister Samant emphasized that the proposal would proceed to the Central Government after securing approval from the Cabinet.

Additionally, there is a noteworthy demand for extending the metro route to Khadakwasla dam as its last station. Minister Samant acknowledged this request, indicating that a feasibility report has been submitted to the government. The state government will carefully assess the proposal before making a decision on this extension.
