Pune, 23rd May 2025: The long-awaited upgrade of the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur stretch has finally received the green light from the Maharashtra government. This significant infrastructure project, which includes the construction of a four-lane elevated road and expansion to a six-lane ground-level highway, is expected to relieve decades of traffic woes and improve connectivity in the Pune district.

Confirming the development, Shirur MP Dr. Amol Kolhe took to social media to announce that the project has received final approval after persistent efforts and consultations with state authorities. “The people in this region have endured endless delays despite the highway’s importance as a key industrial and rural link,” Kolhe posted. “I have been consistently following up with MSIDC and urged them to move ahead with the tender process based on the DPR prepared by the NHAI.”

The Maharashtra Cabinet formally approved the ₹4,000 crore project during a meeting on April 22, following multiple representations by Dr. Kolhe to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Public Works Minister Shivendra Sinhraje Bhosale.

Industries Minister Uday Samant, speaking in Pune, elaborated on the upcoming works. He stated that the project will be carried out by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which has been tasked with overseeing the execution.

Key Features of the Approved Project:
Talegaon to Chakan: A four-lane elevated road will be built to decongest traffic.
Chakan to Shikrapur: The ground-level stretch will be widened to six lanes.
Project Cost: Estimated at ₹3,923.89 crore (excluding GST and minor mineral charges).
Model: The highway upgrade will follow a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.
Land Acquisition: To be funded by an upfront contribution from the state government.
Calling for swift action, Dr. Kolhe urged MSIDC to fast-track the tender process and ensure timely land acquisition. He also pushed for pending approvals on two other critical roadways: the Shirur highway and the Hadapsar–Urulikanchan corridor.

“This is not just about infrastructure; it’s about ensuring safe, efficient travel for thousands of daily commuters and supporting the region’s economic growth,” Dr. Kolhe stated.
