Pune’s Top 10 Most Overbooked Trains: Kanyakumari Express Tops the List with 232% Occupancy

Pune, 25th July 2026: Long-distance trains originating from Pune and Hadapsar witnessed exceptionally high passenger demand during the first six months of 2026, with several services recording end-to-end booking occupancy well above 150 per cent, according to Central Railway’s occupancy data.
The highest occupancy was recorded by Train No. 16381 Kanyakumari Express between Pune and Kanyakumari, which registered 232.49 per cent end-to-end booking occupancy. It was followed by 11077 Jhelum Express between Pune and Jammu Tawi at 202.15 per cent.
The top 10 highest occupancy trains from the Pune region during January–June 2026 are:
– 16381 Kanyakumari Express (Pune–Kanyakumari) – 232.49%
– 11077 Jhelum Express (Pune–Jammu Tawi) – 202.15%
– 11097 Purna Express (Pune–Ernakulam) – 168.09%
– 22150 Pune–Ernakulam Superfast Express (Pune–Ernakulam) – 160.83%
– 11427 Pune–Jasidih Express (Pune–Jasidih) – 155.13%
– 11090 Pune–Bhagat Ki Kothi Express (Pune–Bhagat Ki Kothi) – 154.20%
– 12129 Azad Hind Express (Pune–Howrah) – 154.01%
– 22881 Pune–Bhubaneswar Superfast Express (Pune–Bhubaneswar) – 153.33%
– 11033 Pune–Darbhanga Express (Pune–Darbhanga) – 148.46%
– 11401 Pune–Supaul Express (Pune–Supaul) – 147.59%
Apart from these, several trains originating from Hadapsar also recorded heavy passenger demand. The 20496 Hadapsar–Jodhpur Superfast Express registered 143.03 per cent occupancy, while the 20151 Hadapsar–Rewa Superfast Express recorded 138.79 per cent occupancy. The 22590 Hadapsar–Banaras Amrit Bharat Express also witnessed strong demand with 137.40 per cent occupancy.
Divisional Commercial Manager, Pune Division, Hemant Kumar Behera, said, “The occupancy figures for the first half of 2026 reflect sustained passenger demand from Pune and Hadapsar towards North, East and South India. Long-distance trains continue to witness consistently high patronage across major corridors. Pune Division regularly monitors booking trends and, based on operational feasibility, coordinates with Central Railway and the Railway Board for augmentation of coaches and operation of special trains to cater to passenger requirements.”
