Pune Youth Celebrate Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation; Say the Fight Is for a Fair Education System

Pune, 25th July 2026: Hundreds of students, youth, professionals, parents, and citizens gathered at Goodluck Chowk on Fergusson College (FC) Road on Saturday evening to celebrate the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The gathering came hours after the Minister stepped down following weeks of nationwide protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with participation from students, youth groups, and citizens demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities.
The atmosphere at Goodluck Chowk was festive, with people waving the Indian tricolour, distributing sweets, chanting slogans, taking photographs, and congratulating one another. Protesters described the resignation as the fulfilment of one of the movement’s major demands while emphasising that their larger objective is to ensure long-term reforms in India’s education and examination system.
Weeks of Nationwide Protests
The movement gained momentum after allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, sparking widespread concern among students and parents. What initially began as protests over the examination expanded into a broader campaign demanding transparency, accountability, and reforms in competitive examinations.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organised demonstrations, marches, sit-ins, and public gatherings across several parts of the country. Thousands of students participated in protests in New Delhi, while solidarity demonstrations were also held in cities including Pune. Protesters consistently demanded the Union Education Minister’s resignation, stronger safeguards against examination malpractice, and systemic reforms to restore confidence in India’s education system.
As the protests intensified, they drew participation from students, parents, professionals, teachers, and civil society groups. Demonstrators argued that repeated allegations of examination irregularities had created uncertainty for lakhs of aspirants who spend years preparing for competitive examinations.
Resignation Marks a Major Turning Point
On Saturday, Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation, stating that he was stepping down in the interest of students and the nation. In his resignation letter, he said he wanted students to focus on their education and careers without prolonged political and legal uncertainty surrounding the issue.
The announcement triggered celebrations at protest sites across the country, including New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators hailed the resignation as a victory for student-led public participation.
Pune Joins the Celebration
In Pune, Goodluck Chowk on FC Road became the centre of celebrations as hundreds of students and young people assembled after news of the resignation spread.
Many participants said they had joined earlier protests demanding accountability and viewed the resignation as proof that sustained democratic protest can influence public policy.
People celebrated by raising slogans, waving flags, and sharing sweets. The gathering remained peaceful, with police maintaining security and regulating traffic around the area.
“This Is Bigger Than One Resignation”
While celebrating the resignation, many participants stressed that the movement is not only about one minister.
Speaking to Punekar News, several students said the real issue is ensuring that India’s education system functions fairly and transparently.
One student said:
“Our demand for the Minister’s resignation has been fulfilled, but our bigger demand is a stronger education system. Students should never suffer because of failures in examinations.”
Another participant added:
“This is not only about NEET. Every competitive examination—whether NEET, JEE, UPSC, MPSC, SSC, banking, railway, or any other entrance or recruitment exam—must be conducted fairly. Every student deserves an equal opportunity.”
Several parents present at the gathering also said they hoped authorities would introduce stronger safeguards to protect the interests of students and ensure that examinations remain credible.
Demand for Systemic Reforms
Participants said the movement has always been about protecting the future of students rather than targeting an individual alone.
They called for:
Transparent and secure examination processes.
Strict action against paper leaks and examination malpractice.
Greater accountability within examination authorities.
Timely investigations into alleged irregularities.
Equal and fair opportunities for every student appearing in competitive examinations.
According to those gathered at Goodluck Chowk, the credibility of India’s education system directly impacts millions of students whose careers depend on merit-based examinations.
A Message From Pune’s Youth
As celebrations concluded, students and youth said the resignation represents an important milestone but not the end of their concerns. They expressed hope that governments and examination authorities would now focus on implementing meaningful reforms to strengthen India’s education system.
For many gathered in Pune, Saturday’s celebration was not merely about the resignation of a Union Minister. It was seen by participants as a moment that reaffirmed the importance of student voices and the need for a transparent, accountable, and fair examination system for future generations.
