Tarn Taran, 9th February 2026: A shocking incident rocked a law college in Tarn Taran on Monday morning when a male student allegedly shot and killed a female classmate inside a classroom before turning the gun on himself.

The deceased student has been identified as Sandeep Kaur (20), a first-year law student. The accused, Prince Raj Singh, was also a student at the same college. Police said the college campus was immediately sealed, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.

According to preliminary findings, the case appears to be linked to one-sided love. Police sources said Sandeep Kaur was already engaged, and the accused was unhappy about it and had reportedly been pressuring her to marry him. Investigators also suspect that the accused had proposed to her during Valentine Week on February 8, but she rejected him.

CCTV footage from the classroom has emerged, showing the moments leading up to the incident. At around 9:16 am, before the class had officially begun, students were casually seated and moving around.

Sandeep Kaur was sitting on the back bench with a friend when the accused approached and sat near her. After a brief exchange, he stood up, took out a pistol from his bag, and shot her at point-blank range. She collapsed instantly.

As her friend tried to help her, the accused reloaded the weapon and shot himself in the head. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Another student ran out of the classroom to alert the college authorities, following which police were informed. Panic spread across the campus as frightened students rushed out of the building.

The victim’s mother, Harjinder Kaur, said the family was initially told that her daughter had suffered a minor injury following a small dispute. “When I reached the college, I found my daughter lying dead, covered in blood. She had been shot in the head,” she said. She added that the family was not even allowed near the body initially.

Parents who reached the spot after the incident alleged serious lapses in campus security. They questioned how a student was able to enter the college with a firearm without any checks and demanded strict action against the college management.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Jagbir said the girl was sitting on a bench when she was shot and died on the spot. “The accused also shot himself and was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. We are investigating how he procured the weapon. We are checking whether the pistol was licensed or illegally obtained,” he said.

The police are continuing their probe, and the law college remains under tight security as investigations continue.
