Punjab Police conducts state-wide search operation against ‘Waris Punjab De’ activists, Amritpal Singh On The Run

Amritsar, 18th March 2023: In a state-wide operation, the Punjab Police has launched a cordon and search operation against the activists of ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) after several criminal cases were registered against them. As of now, 78 individuals have been arrested, while many others have been detained for questioning. However, many others, including Amritpal Singh, are still absconding. The police are conducting a massive search operation to catch them.

A spokesman for the Punjab Police said that during the operation, several WPD workers were intercepted on Shahkot-Malsian road in Jalandhar district, and seven persons were arrested on the spot. However, the police are still searching for Amritpal Singh and other absconders.
The state-level operation has so far yielded the recovery of 9 weapons, including a .315 bore rifle, seven 12 bore rifles, a revolver, and 373 live cartridges of different calibers.

The WPD workers are involved in four criminal cases, including creating unrest in society, murder with intent, assaulting police personnel, and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties in a lawful manner. The spokesman further said that case number 39 dated 24-02-2023 has been registered against the workers of WPD for the attack on Ajnala police station.

The police have assured that all persons involved in criminal cases will be dealt with according to the law, and all persons wanted by the police should surrender themselves to the law. The spokesman also stated that the constitutional rights of the accused regarding legal defense will be protected.

The police have urged the public to come forward with any information related to the whereabouts of the absconding WPD workers. The operation is still ongoing, and the police are determined to bring all the accused to justice.
